You fought to get your budget to implement the most amazing digital platform that will move your paper processes into automated workflows creating exceptional employee experiences with a powerhouse of real-time data.
You spent hours strategizing and creating a plan to convince leadership that this tool will benefit the entire organization.
You put weeks into your presentation, and it paid off. You were given the green light to proceed!
You’re elated to have the budget and team together, so where is the buzz? You’re surprised to see that some of the implementation members are skeptical and disengaged.
Your own spirit deflates and your innate enthusiasm now comes from coffee and soda while you try to convince them that this is going to be a game-changer.
You think to yourself, “Can I even pull this off?” The answer is no. Not alone, anyway. It takes much more than one person to implement a transformational journey that impacts the entire organization. And, traditional change management isn’t going to help pull this off either.
Socializing the tool with the most beautiful communications will go nowhere if you do not have the support from senior leadership and key stakeholders or if you lack the right team members on the project.
Here are some key points to consider while you are planning your strategy:
Engage IT early. This implementation will need their assistance and they need to be your partner. Do not engage them at the last minute or leave them out.
Collaborate early with department leads (Benefits, Payroll, Learning and Development, Marketing, Employee Relations, Total Rewards, Recruitment). They will be on this journey with you and will be your best ally.
Think about all your HR systems (ADP, UKG, Cornerstone) and communicate your initiative to the system SMEs ahead of time.
Change Management starts before the project. You will need a team of “change agents” – enthusiasts, thought leaders and visionaries on your project. They will help ensure there won't be any surprises with the system roll-out and that the adoption is successful.
If you are getting pushback from any stakeholders, now is the time to have conversations and challenge them to overcome the uncertainty, rather than to sail full speed ahead with uncertainty in tow.
